Obituary

Janice Romona Miller of Jacksonville died Monday, October 7, 2024, at Onslow Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health prior to her death.

Ms. Miller was the youngest child of the late Joe Tolbert and Ina Hand Miller. She was born in Fort Myers, Florida in 1940. Her family settled in Washington, North Carolina where Ms. Miller graduated from high school. She also earned a BS and Master's Degrees from East Carolina University and spent 30 plus years teaching and coaching at Jacksonville Commons Middle School.

Her church, Living Hope Community, and her church family were very important to Ms. Miller. She served as a deacon and on many committees as long as her health allowed.

Ms. Miller was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Miller Inabinett, a brother, Kenneth Miller, and her nephew, Keith Hodges. Her memory will be cherished by her niece, Chris Thompson (Art) who had the privilege to care for their "Auntie". Other family members that treasured her are a nephew, Kent Miller and a niece, Dee Miller. She had an extended family of nephews and nieces and cousins.

Many family and friends will affectionally remember her as very independent, along with a great nephew who knew her as "Grumpy". Most importantly we all knew she loved us.

Ms. Miller was also passionate about animals and shared her home with many that she rescued.

Her family thanks all of her friends and neighbors who cared and watched out for her.

A family gathering will be held in Washington at a future time.
