HUBERT  -  Janice "Jan" Elinor Shaw, 76, of Hubert, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026, at her home with her family by her side.  A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Shaw was born April 12,1949 to the late Stanley and Eleanor Shaw.

Jan graduated from Dryden High School in New York, after high school she went on to get her bachelor's from Gordon College in Wenham, MA. She also earned a master's degree from University of Massachusetts and later in life she received her master's from Bentley University. She taught Elementary assignments in both Kenya and later in Kuwait. In later years Jan worked as an accountant. She was a proficient gardener who created excellent gardens. She excelled in home restoration and helped to restore their home in Templeton, MA, to its 1785 roots. Jan also, for many years, thrifted for vintage treasures, sometimes keeping and other times selling, (very successfully), in her booth, in New Hampshire. She was instrumental in helping Wayne find and procure vintage clocks for his collection. Jan also was an avid outdoor person, who loved nothing more than to camp or go boating with her family.

Jan was a teacher and loved to help her students learn everything they needed, but her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and friends.  Through all the twists and turns of her life, Jan never lost her joy in seeing and talking to a child. Now she is finally free.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Shaw Grennell; and her brother-in-law, Michael Grennell.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Bartell of the home; daughters, Dennette Tanner and Wendy Van Valkenburg (Phillip), both of Hubert; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, June Hall of Oak Island, NC; her niece, Lisa; and her nephew, Geofrey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
