Obituary

Jimmy Burke 77 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at home. He lived a life of dedication and service, both to his country and his family. Born in South Georgia he was a strong, resilient, and deeply loyal man. After graduating from Ware County High School, Jimmy answered the call of duty and served in the Vietnam War as a proud member of the US Army. Upon his return, he built a stable and loving home with his wife, Beverly Black Burke, whom he cherished for 57 years. Together, they raised a family and created a legacy that would endure for generations. Jimmy's work ethic shone through in his 31-year career with JC Penney, where he no doubt left a lasting impression on his colleagues and customers alike. Beyond his professional life, Jimmy found his greatest joy in his loved ones. He was a devoted husband, a loving father to his daughter Kimberly and son JD. Jimmy was proud grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each life he touched now carries a piece of his legacy, and his memory will forever be kept alive through the stories and traditions passed down through the generations. As the sun sets on Jimmy's life, his passing brings a sense of peace, knowing he is reunited with those who went before him. His parents, Rev Felton Burke Sr. and Madeline Harrell Houston, and his son, James "J.D" Burke, no doubt welcomed him with open arms, along with his brothers who preceded him in death. In the hearts of those he leaves behind, Jimmy's memory will forever be a source of strength and inspiration.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Beverly Black Burke, daughter, Kimberly Cook (Chris), sisters Norma Vaught (Darrell), Sandra Strickland (Wes), grandchildren Brandi Browning (Brandon), Brittany Hughes (Dylan), James Burke, and Devin Burke. Mr. Burke has 7 great grandchildren Addilynn, Jacob, Wyatt, Ryan, Greyson, Cameron and Milani.
