Richlands – John Steven Hirko, 63, passed away at home while surrounded by family on Monday, October 5, 2026.
A celebration of John’s life will be 2:00 pm on Monday, November 3, 2026 at Catalyst Church in Jacksonville. John will be laid to rest at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors in a private service for the family.
John honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps for over 20 years before his retirement. He was a scout master with the Boy Scouts of America, he loved to fly fish and make his own flies, he loved the outdoors and was a lifelong outdoor survivalist, hunter and nature expert. He had a passion for teaching others all of those skills. John was always excited about expanding his knowledge in various other areas throughout his life. And he made a mean cheesecake that was loved by all. What John loved most was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Edwina and Joseph Hirko Jr.; and brother, David Evans.
John is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Brenda Robinson Hirko; children, Amelia Cazarez (Auturo) and her family Javier and Emilia, Travis Hirko (Allison), and Kenneth Hirko (Katherine); grandkids, Matthew Fender, James Fender, Samuel Hirko, Callan Hirko, Brenna Hirko, Javier Caearez, Ian Hirko, Emilia Caearez, and Iris Hirko; and Brother, Dennis Evans.
