John "Ski"
Konarski
May 25, 1938 – January 1, 2026
Cedar Point-- John "Ski" Konarski passed away January 1, 2026 after a brief illness. He LIVED a good life for 87 years, 7 months, and 7 days. He was born in Greenport, New York, on May 25, 1938, – the son of the late Mikolay, a Polish immigrant, and Anna Bedell Konarski of Cutchogue, New York. He lived his life as a husband for 66 years, father to four daughters, grandfather to five grandchildren, and as a great-grandfather to two girls. He will be greatly missed by his family and longtime friends.
John decided to leave high school early and went to serve his country for four years in the United States Navy. While proudly serving, he got his wish to see the world and traveled to ports across the Atlantic Ocean. Upon his return, he married Patricia and started his family on Long Island in Blue Point NY.
"Ski" will always be remembered for his entrepreneurial drive and kindness. He was proud to have started his own fiberglass boat repair business. His long days, hard work and meticulous attention to detail paid off. He and his business, Ski's Fiberglass, became known solely through word of mouth, no advertising necessary. John was a true craftsman, and nothing left the shop if it was not done right. He demonstrated integrity and a strong work ethic throughout his life and instilled the same in his daughters.
His greatest joy was being surrounded by his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and being out on his tractor taking care of his yard or garden. John shared his love of travel and adventure with his family. By the time the family moved to North Carolina in 1978, they had camped and toured the entire East Coast. This love of discovering and exploring new places was embraced by the entire family. John cherished family gatherings, and he loved being at the head of the table to share meals and lively conversation.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Friis Konarski; daughters: Jamie Konarski Davidson (Jeffery) of Greenville, NC, Patricia Jones of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mary Konarski Kelley of Cape Carteret, NC, and Monica Fusetti (Tim) of Monroe, NC; grandchildren: Cooper, Kylie, Mikaela, Lauren, and Cailen; and great granddaughters, Ella and Charlee. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Vincent, Michael, Feliksa, Jennie, and Stacia.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice: Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or any local animal rescue group.
