John M. Pierce died peacefully at home on March 28, 2025. He lived life fully, having a strong dedication to his church and religious beliefs.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 31, 2025 at Five Mile Freewill Chapel Church, located on Five Mile Road, Richlands, NC. Burial will follow at the Pierce Family Cemetery.
Mr. Pierce was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Anderson Pierce; daughters, Mary Pierce and Martha Pierce; parents, Starkey L. Pierce and Pearlie Hall Pierce; brothers, Norman Pierce, George "Sam" Pierce, Starkey "Buck" Pierce, Joe Hill Pierce, and Tony Pierce; and grandchildren, Alex Fountain and Soyna Fountain.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda P. Fountain (Rex), Geneva Metts (Keith), and Dr. Janet Barefoot (Dr. Robert); grandchildren, Michael Pierce (Elizabeth), Jason Tant (Amanda), Josh Metts (Kara), Gena Torrence (Ricky), Greg Metts, Nathan Metts (Kelsey) and Alan Fountain; great grandchildren, Zachary Pierce (Kellie), Candace McGowan (Wyatt), Alexis Metts, Brady Metts, Caden Metts, Gunner Shelby, Makayla Varvell (Skyler), Anderson Tant, Kara Marshburn, John-McCoy Tant, Ellis Tant, Carter Torrence, Cooper Torrence, Brookelynn Metts, Hannah Metts, Jackson Owens and Garett Greer; great great grandchild, Stetson McGowan; and dear friend of the family, Lillie Gray
Throughout his life he dedicated his life to his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild.
He was known for a strong work ethic. During his younger years he owned several businesses, a small engine repair company and a logging company. He worked for Texas Gulf as a lead supervisor and as a contract worker, civil service upon Camp Lejeune. He retired from Onslow County Maintenance Department as a lead carpenter. He spent countless volunteer hours working with Onslow Community Outreach Christmas Cheer.
He will be dearly missed. He was deeply loved and forever will be in our hearts.
The family will receive friends, Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Five Mile Freewill Chapel Church located on Five Mile Rd, Richlands, NC from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
