Obituary

JACKSONVILLE  -  John Shelton Wilson, III passed on to be with his Lord on May 27, 2022 in peace and surrounded by loving family.  John was born March 1, 1941, to J.S. and Thelma Moore Wilson, in Lake City, SC.  The oldest of four boys, he was followed by, Wayne and Rick of Lake City, SC and Dean Wilson, of Florence, SC.  John was a graduate of Clemson University and a life-long Tiger fan.

While serving in the US Army in Oklahoma, John married Marilyn Palmer. They had four children together: Jennifer Lea, Marideth Lyn, Amanda Laine, and John Palmer (Will).

John later married Louise Lopp Fleagle Wilson (Lou), with whom he lovingly served for 39 years.  With Lou's children, Christopher and Lindsey, he added to his family and deeply loved them all.  He formally adopted Lou's daughter, Lindsey Fleagle Wilson.  John enjoyed the blessing of 13 grandchildren:  Savannah, Lauren and Elizabeth Stiller of Raleigh, NC, through Marideth and Tony Stiller; Jordan and Logan Pilcher of Beaufort, NC, through Jennifer and Jeff Pilcher; Lillian and Josiah Greene of Wilkesboro, NC, through Amanda and Steven Greene; Jackson and Emery Wilson of Brentwood, TN, through Will and Angela Wilson; and Benjamin, Christiana, Jaden, and Vivian Kate Fleagle of Orlando, FL, through Christopher and Kelly Fleagle.

John had a 42 year career as a commodities buyer, providing for Holly Farms Poultry in the plant offices of Mocksville, NC, and Wilkesboro, NC; for Tyson Foods Corporate Headquarters in Springdale, AR; and with Browns/Smithfield of Carolina in Warsaw, NC.

At John's request, there will be a cremation and private family gathering.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church at 6864 Zion Church Rd NE, Leland, NC 28451; or to the SECU Family/Hospice House at 1523 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC  28401.  Individuals are encouraged to conduct a quiet act of kindness as a true celebration of his life.
