JACKSONVILLE - Johnny Alvin Goines, 69, of Jacksonville, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Onslow Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Verona Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M.
Mr. Goines was born to the late James Earl (USMC Retired) and Mary Clark Goines on July 18, 1955 at Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1974 and married the former Deborah Nave in September 1975. They recently celebrated 49 years of a most special partnership and lifelong commitment. After graduation, Johnny worked alongside his father in the family business, Goines Service Center. He also worked as a head mechanic for United Parcel Service and with property investments at Verona Oaks Rentals. In recent years, he owned and operated Cost Wise Yard Care, where he was respected and well-known for his kindness and generosity to elderly residents in the area.
In addition, Johnny was a longtime volunteer with the Verona Volunteer Fire Department, serving the Verona Community for nearly 50 years. He is fondly remembered for his fun-loving attitude, his friendly personality, and his willingness and dedication to help with fundraisers and barbecues to benefit the Fire Department.
Johnny had a special love for his church, family and friends. He was a caring and loving "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren and great -granddaughter, and a much beloved brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Deborah, of the home; daughter Diane Teehee of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Christopher John Goines of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Bradley, Ricky, Matthew and Kenly; and great granddaughter, Kameryn. He is also survived by his sisters, Rebecca Goines Goodson, (Ricky) of Jacksonville and Mary Carol Sampson, (Jim) of Florida; brothers, James Earl Goines, Jr., (Jodi) of Georgia and Billy Joe Goines of Jacksonville; nieces, Kimberly, Emily, Stephanie, Amanda, Beverly, Paula and Chloe; and nephews, Nicholas, Dylan and Jackson.
The funeral procession will be led by fire engines from Verona Volunteer Fire Department and will escort Johnny throughout the Verona community one final time before he is laid to rest.
In leu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Verona Volunteer Fire Department, 101 Verona Rd.
