Jonathan David ('JD') Morgan, 35

Jonathan David Morgan of Jacksonville, NC passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 18, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC.  Services will follow thereafter at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Jon was born on November 17, 1985, the son of Laura Zerfowski (Michael) of Hillsboro, IL and David W. Morgan (Betty) of Fairhope, AL.

Jon graduated from Hillsboro High School, IL, in 2004.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2005 and held the rank of Gunnery Sergeant when he passed.  He deployed twice to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom with HMH-361, the Flying Tigers. For the last four years he has been attached to VMX-1, the Winged Lions.  Officially he was a Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) for the Avionics Division on the CH-53E and K; unofficially he was a bad ass.

He married the love of his life Miguel Morgan (Gonzales) on July 20, 2018. Jon and Miguel were proud parents of two Dalmatians, Storm and Gambit. They were fortunate to have found each other, they shared many laughs with each other and their friends. They brought out the absolute best in each other. Outward looking in you just knew how happy they were and how much love they shared.

To know Jon was to love him. He had a great smile, an infectious laugh, and a quick wit. Children gravitated to him and adored him. He found humor in everything. He excelled in his job and was a mentor to many Marines. If Jon couldn't fix it, no one could. He was an amazing Marine who left behind a legacy and a profound impact on all those he taught.

In addition to his husband Miguel, Jon is survived by his parents and his stepbrothers, Brett Zerfowski (Brandy), Scott Barnes, and Greg Barnes.
