SWANSBORO - Joseph Raynor Dameron, Jr., 82, of Swansboro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10,2026 at his home. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 14,2026 at Jones Funeral Home, Swansboro Chapel. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park in Swansboro.
Born on October 18, 1943, in New Bern, North Carolina, Joseph was the son of Joseph Raynor Dameron, Sr. and Allena Cochram Dameron, who preceded him in death, along with his sister, Nancy Dameron Collins.
Mr. Dameron was a lifelong salesman at heart, best known for his many successful years with Pre-Paid Legal Services where he built not just a career, but lasting friendships. He believed deeply in the power of conversation, connection, and opportunity, and truly never knew a stranger. Beyond his professional success, Joseph was known for embracing life with enthusiasm and joy. He loved deeply, laughed often, and believed life was meant to be lived fully. Whether through storytelling, time with family, or sharing a moment with friends, Joseph made every interaction meaningful. He approached life with optimism, humor, and an unwavering belief in making the most of every day.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Hurst Dameron; his daughters, Barbara Jo Brinkley and her husband, Eugene Brinkley, and Amy Dameron Barnes and her husband, Rawlings Barnes; and his cherished grandchildren, Joseph Russell Ross, Stephen Andrew Ross, Donald Ray Mayle, Jr., Shellby Addisyn Moore and Landon Jaxon Moore. He is also survived by his nephew, Nicholas Warren Collins; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Joseph's family is grateful for the love, prayers, and support shown during this time. His memory will live on through the lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Gentiva Hospice Foundation.
