Joseph Elijah Matthews, Jr., 70, of Goldsboro, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Wayne UNC Healthcare in Goldsboro.

A funeral service will be 1 pm Friday, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial will follow in Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Surviving are three daughters, Norma Jean Matthews, Sakinah Rivers, Eneida Vasquez-Matthews, all of Goldsboro; two sons, Joseph E. Matthews, III, of Jacksonville, James Edward Matthews of Brunswick, GA; and a sister, Barbara D. Taylor of Philadelphia, PA.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday from 12 pm until 1 pm at the funeral home.
