Obituary

Jacksonville- Joseph E. Webb (79) passed Thursday October 8, 2026 at his home, with his loving family by his side.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 2 pm with an hour prior visitation taking place at Jones Funeral Home of Jacksonville.

Joseph was born September 25, 1947, in Edgecombe County, NC to the late Lucille and Herbert Lee.

In life he was an accomplished educator, beginning his career as a teacher at Jacksonville High School and serving the eastern part of the state as a Social Studies Consultant for many years. He became a school administrator at Swansboro High School and opened Queen’s Creek Elementary as its first Principal. In retirement, he continued to work with East Carolina University and UNC-Wilmington as a student teacher supervisor. Teaching was always his passion, and he continued to serve others in this role late into his life.

Joe’s other calling was his belief in humanity and the capability of people to work together to achieve common goals. He was an active member of the Onslow County Democratic Party, culminating in a run for the district 6 NC State Senate seat. While he was not victorious in the election, he proved to be a worthy candidate and was extremely proud and humbled for the opportunity.

In his personal life, Joseph was devoted to his family, always keeping them close to his heart. He leaves behind his wife, Elvira Webb, children, Allyson Duran (Samuel), Michael Webb (Christine), Ashley Zuco (Arthur), sister, Wanda Webb-Elliott (Tom), grandchildren, Jacob Gallagher (Mackenzie), Christopher Webb, Addison Duran, Madalyn Webb, Solomon Duran, Enzo Zuco, Ada Zuco, Nico Zuco, and his first great-grandson Stetson Beckett “Beck” Gallagher.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you make a donation in Joseph's honor to the Glioblastoma Research Organization.
