Judith Anne
Combs
April 29, 1946 – September 3, 2023
On September 3rd, 2023, Judith "Judy" Combs, passed away at the age of 77 after an 8-year-long battle with cancer. Judy faced her illness with the same creative and determined flair she approached life.
Born in Pine Bluff, NC Judy moved to Jacksonville in 1956 and had a reputation for being quite the head-turner. After she graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1964 and attended East Carolina University, she moved to Charlotte, NC, where she realized her love for architecture and design. She lived in Myrtle Beach starting in the late '70s, where she practiced interior design and loved to dance the night away. When she returned home to Jacksonville in the '90s, she found her second family among the neighbors of Bayshore Estates.
An avid animal lover, Judy embraced life with the enthusiasm of a cat discovering a cardboard box. She radiated warmth, could make anyone laugh until their stomach hurt, and had a charm that turned strangers into friends in an instant. Her determination was only matched by her fun-loving nature, making her the ultimate mix of femme fatale and life of the party.
Survived by one sister Barbara Bray, nephews Mike and John Bray and nieces Susan Hill and Shannon Bray, Judy's legacy lives on through the memories she crafted with her adoring lifelong friends: Connie Kitchen, Marilyn and Genna Margolis, Carey and Dean Hawkins, Patsy Alexander, and so many others. In Judy's words, "Life is a canvas; throw some sequins on it." Judy, you truly sequined up our lives.
May her style live on forever, and her sequins never fade.
