Obituary

Swansboro- Julie Kalman Brown, 83, passed away at her home on May 28, 2026. She was born on September 22, 1942 in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of the late Jack R. and Mabel C. Kalman.

After her graduation from Norman Oklahoma High School, she received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma. In excess of 50 years, Julie was a professional kitchen designer who loved helping clients in the states of Colorado, Florida and North Carolina. The high demand for her services was a biproduct of her accumulated knowledge of design, cost, and engineering options as well as an instinctive understanding of the client’s needs.

She loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was full of life and never held back on any activity whether it was golf, tennis, boating, fishing, elk hunting, bridge, or Bunko. She was the highly respected president of Plantation Estates Homeowners Association from 2015-2025. She enjoyed the good things in life and was a go-getter to the very end.

She is survived by her husband, LtCol. David Brown, USMC (Ret.); son, John Loughran of Palos Verdes Estate, CA; stepdaughter, Sarah Loughran of Steamboat Springs, CO; and stepson, Peter Loughran of Graton, CA; and grandchildren, Zara and Collette.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jackie Poe, Teresa Brown, and Joan Kasper.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Jones Funeral Home-Swansboro, with Rev. Ben Burrows officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
