Kathleen Horne
Marshall
February 18, 1925 – March 5, 2025
Kathleen Horne Marshall, 100, of Jacksonville, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 28th, 2025, at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with Rev. Roland Penny officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
She was a loving wife and mother to whom the word "fierce" could be applied accurately: Fiercely independent. Fiercely loving. Fiercely loyal. And if she perceived you to have done wrong, especially to someone she loved, could be pretty fierce in general. Despite 20+ years of blindness she lived independently and managed her own affairs with the aid of a sharp mind and an incredible memory. She embodied the "Don't Tread On Me" flag she flew meaning "do no harm, and do not stand silently for being done wrong by others".
A member of St Anne's Episcopal Church, she was a believer in God and in the salvation offered by Jesus Christ that offered hope of reunion with those she loved. She deeply loved her country, her county, North Carolina, and her family heritage that ran deep in the Cedar Fork community of Richlands.
She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, former Onslow County Sheriff Thomas J. Marshall, whom she loved until the day she died, as well as by her parents Mary and Leland B. Horne, siblings Warren L. Horne, James E Horne, Dorothy Marshburn, and Patricia Pollard.
She is survived by son John H. Marshall of Jacksonville and Phoenix, Arizona, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also grateful for special friends and family who showed great care during her final years including: Pearl Taft, Willa Ann Gregg, Lindsey Lou Russell, Brenda Marshall Miller, Christine Hines, Edita Horne, neighbors Linda and Veronica White, and Mr. Roland Penny. She was also thankful to have had the most caring of care givers in Brittany Guptil, along with Sheila Cotton from Senior Services, Mary Lane, and in her final weeks Lower Cape Fear Life Care, and the Seniors Choosing to Live at Home agency. The family also thanks Dorothy McCabe who provided exceptional care and assistance and without whom she might not have been found and survived a fall in December of 2022.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 711 Henderson Drive, Jacksonville, NC 28540, or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, at www.stjude.org/donate .
