JACKSONVILLE  -  Larry Joseph "Joe" Short, 75, of Jacksonville, died Friday, October 11, 2024 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel, with Revs. Phillip Shepard and David Love officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Mr. Short was a son of the late, Charles Lafayette Short and Mary Hunt Short.  He was a Vietnam Veteran having served honorably in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of GySgt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Lee Short.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Paula Sue Chandler of the home; his daughter, Rachelle Short Prince and her husband, Paul of Sneads Ferry; three grandchildren, Joseph "Joey" Drago and his wife, Hannah of Chesterfield, VA, Kaylie J. Prince of Raleigh and Caleb Paul Prince of Sneads Ferry; one great-granddaughter, Lilliana Drago; two sisters, Mabel Louise Tussey of Ashland, KY and Betty Jean Pearce of Ashland, KY; and two brothers, Charles Ray Short and his wife, Donna of Ashland, KY and Michael Short and his wife, Margo of Georgetown, KY.

The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, prior to the service, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Verona Volunteer Fire Department.
