With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Lettie Capps Midgett, who departed this life on March 14, 2026, on her 78th birthday. Born on March 14, 1948, Lettie lived a life marked by love, strength, and devotion to her family and was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Midgett.
Lettie was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Carolyn (James) Holland and Cynthia Midgett. She was a proud and loving grandmother to six grandchildren: Sherry (Katie) Thoman; Randall (Justina) Midgett; Vicky (Clay) Midgett; Jamie (Jessica) Gurganus; Justin (Raymond) Fitzgerald; and Timothy (Destiny) Thoman.
She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Jason Midgett, Mackenley Gurganus, Brianna Midgett, Gracelyn Gurganus, Elias Thoman, and Genesis Midgett.
Lettie is survived by her brother, William "Cornbread" Capps, and her sister and best friend, Penny Capps Varner.
She was a cherished grandmother whose warmth and kindness touched everyone around her. Her home was a place of comfort, where family gathered, stories were shared, and memories were made. She had a gentle spirit, a caring heart, and a way of making each person feel special and deeply loved.
She found great joy in the outdoors and especially loved fishing, camping, and gardening. Whether tending to her plants, relaxing by the water, or spending time outside with family, she was happiest surrounded by nature and the people she loved.
Lettie's life was defined by her dedication to her family, her strong faith, and the joy she found in being surrounded by those she loved most. Her wisdom, quiet strength, and steady presence will remain guiding lights for generations to come.
Though her passing was unexpected, the love she gave so freely will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on March 19, 2026 at 2:00, followed by the memorial service at 3:00, both at Jones Funeral Home in Holly Ridge, North Carolina.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
