Linda Fields Hughes Moffitt, 74, of Holly Ridge, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and the many memories she created throughout a life devoted to caring for others. A Celebration of Life will be held March 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Goldston Methodist Church in Goldston, North Carolina, with Rev. Buck Garrison and Rev. Perry Wood officiating.
Linda was born on August 11, 1951, in Farmville, NC to Joseph Denver Hughes and Hazel Elizabeth Hughes. From an early age, she carried a compassionate spirit that would guide her throughout her life. She devoted her career to helping others as a registered nurse, a calling that perfectly reflected her gentle heart, strength, and dedication to serving those in need. Whether caring for patients, supporting friends, or comforting family, Linda gave of herself freely and wholeheartedly.
More than anything, Linda cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, a proud and loving mother, and a grandmother whose greatest joy came from the time she spent with her grandchildren. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love created a home filled with laughter, support, and lasting memories.
She is survived by her loving husband, Walter Moffitt; her children, Brandon Payne (Emily) of Conway, SC, and Amber Johnson (Kenny) of Sneads Ferry, NC. She was a proud grandmother to Brianna Settle, Preston Payne, Taylor Payne, Juliana Payne, Gavin Johnson, and Tori Johnson, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Linda is also survived by her siblings: JD Hughes (Ethelene) of Benson, NC; Jean Nicolaus (Jim) of Prospect, KY; Robert Hughes (Jackie) of Ayden, NC; and George Hughes of Dunn, NC. She leaves behind many extended family members who were dear to her, including Ricky and Lisa Payne; Leslie and Trey Wilson and their children; Anna Moffitt and her children; and Kelly Hicks and her children, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones whose lives were touched by her kindness and caring spirit.
Linda's life was a reflection of love, compassion, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will live on through the many people who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to those who loved her.
