Obituary

Holly Ridge – Lisbeth “Betsy” Ann Andercyk, 82, of Holly Ridge, North Carolina passed away at Novant Health in Wilmington, NC after an extended illness on September 13, 2026.

Betsy was born on December 26, 1943, and grew up in New Castle, PA. She studied at Neshannock High School in New Castle, attended college at The University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL, and then at The University of Maryland School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD, graduating with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science (BSN, MSN) in Nursing. Her career was spent at the University of Maryland Hospital system in Baltimore and Glen Burnie, MD, and at St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, TN. Her responsibilities and skills were developed in the Emergency Department, Medical Floors, and Orthopedics care and included teaching Public Health at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. More than 25 years of her profession was dedicated to Case Management for Orthopedic patients and families and included positions in the Case Management Society of America, Chesapeake Chapter. She spent more than 50 years of her life as a nurse, often offering innovative ideas for improving patient care.

She was devoted to her family and treasured her children, husband and extended family. She was totally absorbed in keeping her home decorated with the seasonal holiday themes and was especially attentive to Christmas, assuring that it reflected magic, mystery, and spirituality. One glimpse was a tradition she and Paul began when Amy and Katie were babies. On Christmas Eve, Paul would read The Night Before Christmas as the four of them sat together. The tradition continues and now includes grandchildren, even by phone. Betsy loved life. In a theater in New York, a skiff on a river, a charter boat 80 miles offshore, going to The Nutcracker Ballet, reading James Patterson or Patricia Cornwell in a chair, attending a formal gala, or having dinner at the kitchen table, she was at home everywhere and she made sure that her daughters appreciated and experienced the same wonder and excitement with her at their side.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Elizabeth Allen and grandmother, Lena Allen. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Paul Andercyk; daughters, Amy Lynn Andercyk (Matthew Sherman) and Katie Rickabaugh (Brad); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Andercyk, Cameron Rickabaugh; step grandchildren Madeline Sherman (Riley Cummings), and Mason Sherman; great-grandchildren, Oliver Cummings and Emmitt Cummings; sister, Jodi McGraw (Kevin); special cousins, Susan Jones, Marilou Allen, John Allen, and Fred Allen; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home, 207 N. Dyson St., Holly Ridge, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Jones Funeral Home, Holly Ridge Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
