Obituary

SWANSBORO  -  Louis Edward Nance, 91, of Swansboro, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at his home.  A Celebration of Life, with military honors, will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Swansboro Moose Lodge.

Mr. Nance was born August 24,1933 a son of the late John and Sallie Emerson Nance. He faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps and retired at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served with valor and earned many awards during his years of service. Upon retiring from the Marine Corp he worked as an electrician until he was 65yrs old. Lou spent many years playing on mens softball teams often playing 1st base. He played many rounds of golf and was an avid hunter. He was a fabulous dancer and loved dancing with his wife, daughters and anyone who would join him on the dance floor. He was the life of the party and had an infectious laugh that brought happiness and joy to all who knew him. He enjoyed the love and affection he received from his grandchildren as he watched them grow.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Nance; and his sister, Norma Jean Moore.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Romer Cross Nance of the home; children, Joan Cross, Jane Watkins (Cecil Jordan), and Charles Cross (Virginia) all of Swansboro; grandchildren, Jacob Morton, Lauren Cross, Nicole Casteen, 2LT Charles Watkins, III, and Alex York; five great grandchildren; and brother, Thomas Nance (Bonnie) of Virginia.
