Obituary

Louise Morton peacefully entered her heavenly home on Monday, September 22, 2025, embraced in the arms of God. Funeral services will be held at at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel, with Pastor Roland Penny officiating.  Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.

Louise longed to be reunited with the love of her life, her husband, Pete Morton. They were married for 59 years. Louise was born in Scotland County to the late Samuel Peele and Lena Wallace Peele.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert "Pete" Morton; her first grandson, Christopher Ethan Edwards;  son-in-law, Doug Edwards; brothers, Luther, Hubert, Bobby, Charles, Harold "Sonny" Peele; and three sisters, Mary Katherine Norton, Margaret Lowery and Winnie "Cuter Bill" Gale.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Sawyer and husband, Jeff; and her son, Duane Morton  and wife, Janet, all of Jacksonville;  and two grandsons, Joshua Morton of Jacksonville and Jude Morton of Greenville, Tennessee.

Louise was known as a dedicated wife, loving and caring mother, wonderful cook, and her love for the outdoors. She could revive any dead twig and bring it back to its bountiful glory. A woman of integrity, strong morals, and her unwavering faith in God.

After Pete's passing in 2016, Louise began exhibiting health concerns, having multiple falls, surgeries, and heart issues that often kept her in the doctor's office, emergency room, or hospital. She persevered with great strength, true-grit, and amazing resilience. God knew that mom was growing weary and weaker with each passing day. God decided to give her  wings, although our hearts were not ready.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 - 8 PM at the funeral home.

We would like extent our appreciation in recognizing those that helped provide care for mom: Derrick Bell with Bell Solutions (Seniors Choosing to Live at Home), Ms. Betty Dove, CNA, and Nurse Kalie with Gentiva Hospice of Swansboro.
