Lucy Marie
Brooks
d. Dec 21, 2020
On 21 December 2020, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Lucy Marie (Eckenrode) Brooks passed away after an incredibly brief and courageous battle with CJD. Born on 29 September 1949 in Colver, PA, Lucy was a 1967 graduate of Central Cambria High School. Upon graduation she ventured to Minneapolis, MN to continue her education and eventually retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance as a Medical Claims Assistant in Naperville, IL. She lived and loved life for more than 30 years in Naperville before retiring to Jacksonville, NC.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Isadore and Grace (McNulty) Eckenrode, as well as her brothers Dean, Howard, Lawrence, Eugene, Francis, and Patrick Eckenrode. Surviving relatives include her husband of 46 years, Jeffrey "Buck" Brooks, her daughter Sarah (Dev) Spradlin, her brother Clint (Joyce) Eckenrode and sisters Mary Bolette, Janet (Rick) Hahn, and Theresa (Jerry) Albers and countless nieces, nephews and friends. Last but certainly not least she is survived by her grandchildren, John-Thomas, Alexandra, Samantha, and Madeline Spradlin whom she loved and cared for with an uncompromising sense of adoration.
To know Lucy was to know the essence of energy in motion. Her passion for entertaining was timeless, and her parties continue to be a topic of discussion for those who ever attended one of her soirees. Lucy epitomized a healthy lifestyle, playing tennis, pickleball, and exercising daily. She maintained an uncanny ability to transform a lifeless plant into a majestic work of art through hard work, sweat, and a few agonizing bug bites. She traveled the globe visiting Asia, Europe, the Caribbean Islands, Canada and North America. And if love could have saved her, she would have lived forever.
If Lucy could pass along any advice it would be this:
"No amount of anxiety can change the future. No amount of regret can change the past. Don't stop moving, don't stop learning, and never stop laughing."
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Infant of Prague Church, in Jacksonville, NC. Inurnment will be held in her hometown of Ebensburg, PA this spring at Holy Name Cemetery. Time and date of all services and celebrations will be published soon. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Lucy's name to the CJD foundation at https://cjdfoundation.org
