RICHLANDS - Luther Dale Sanderson, 79, of Richlands, died Friday, October 9, 2026, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at Jones Funeral Home, Richlands Chapel, with Revs. Kenny Huffman and Jerry Koonce officiating. Entombment will follow at Onslow Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Sanderson was born January 1, 1947 in Idabel, OK to the late Luther Edmond Sanderson and Roberta Sanderson.

Dale devoted 60 years of his life to Davey Tree Company, where his strong work ethic and reliability earned the respect of everyone. He absolutely loved drag racing and everything to do with it and racing engines. He could often be found sitting at Sanders Auto, talking and laughing with the late Gene Sanders, family, and friends. He was the life of any gathering, and he never went anywhere without running into someone he knew. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family. He loved to eat, though he preferred that his wife do the cooking. He took pride in and enjoyed his time volunteering with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Posse. In his later years, he could usually be found mowing grass (including Robyn’s), tending his garden, tinkering in the shop, or sitting and talking junk with Graham Burch.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Larry Sanderson, Bobby Sanderson, Duck Sanderson and Carrie Dean Sanderson.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Brenda Strickland Sanderson; five children, Luther Bo Sanderson, Belinda Sanderson Bailey, Johnny Ray Killette, Timothy Todd Dail and Robyn Lynn Sanderson; four sisters, Gloria Condon, Magaline Jones, Linda Sanderson and Laura Sanderson; seven grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Killette, Robyn Alyce Killette, Brittney Hazelton, Timothy Hazelton, Amber Eason, Hanna Dail and Hayes Killette; and six great-grandchildren, Aiden, Mattie, Nicholas, Koko, Indy and Lila.
