Lynwood Roscoe Thornton, 71, of Holly Ridge passed away on October 1, 2023.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Poole Thornton; his daughter, April Thornton Wade and husband, Joe; his son, Lynwood Lee Thornton and wife, Jodi; his grandchildren, Olivia, Christopher, Landon, and Rylee; his sister, Sandra Thornton West and husband, Charles; and many nieces and nephews.

Lynwood was a dedicated husband of 51 years and a loving and supportive father. His grandchildren couldn't have asked for a sillier Papa who wanted to give them the world. He loved his immediate and extended family very much and was proud of each and every one of them. For over 30 years he was passionate about being a Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputy and his wife and children were always proud of how he served his community.  Lynwood was a dedicated Tar Heel fan and loved watching any NFL team playing. After retirement he was content sitting in his man cave, drinking Dr. Pepper and eating boiled peanuts with a ball game on. Lynwood made a lasting impression and will be missed by many. One thing we are certain about, he is up in Heaven watching over his family waiting to be reunited with us.
