Major Randy
Lee Hebert
April 25, 1962 – February 1, 2025
EMERALD ISLE - Major Randy L. Hebert, United States Marine Corps, Retired, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on February 1, 2025 after a 32-year battle with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Randy had a strong dedication to his country, serving in the Marine Corps for 13 years. A highlight of his career included serving as a Combat Engineer Officer in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm.
Randy's service on behalf of other members of the military did not end with his retirement. While dealing with the swift onslaught of ALS' debilitating effects, he spent hours testifying before Congress regarding US military members' exposure to chemical and biological weapons that caused illnesses upon their return home. His work, at that time resulted in benefits for military members and their families that would not have been available to them had it not been for his bravery in speaking out.
Randy was a Christian witness to all who knew him or heard of his battle, as he remained strong in his faith in God and never wavered in his belief in God's goodness.
Randy was born on April 25, 1962 to E. Loyd Hebert and Shirdale Hebert in Port Arthur, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Kim M. Hebert, and two children, Nicole E. Hebert and Kyle E. Hebert.
Randy was predeceased by his sister Michelle Hebert Houle. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Melinda (Steve) Guy, Melanie (Frank) Snyder, Kevin (Melissa) Hebert, David (Nicola) Hebert, and his many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 9:30 AM on February 7, 2025 at Chapel by the Sea Church in Emerald Isle, NC with Pastor Clay Olsen officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family welcomes friends Thursday evening from 5-7 at the church.
In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation to any of the following organizations: ALS United North Carolina (alsnc.org/donate), The America Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org), or the Brothers in Arms Foundation (brothersinarmsfoundation.org).
