Mandie Leigh
Walkowiak
Aug 11, 1977 — Oct 28, 2026
Mandie Leigh Walkowiak, age 49, passed away on October 28, 2026, surrounded by family who loved her deeply. Mandie was a smart, loving, and fiercely strong woman. A hard worker with a caring heart, she took pride in her work as a dental hygienist, respiratory therapist, and ultrasound technician, dedicating herself to helping others. She found happiness in life’s simple, beautiful things, especially the warmth of the sunshine and the ocean waves. Dolphins were her spirit animal, a fitting reflection of her own strength, grace, and resilient spirit.
A tragic accident forever changed the course of Mandie’s life, but it never extinguished the fighter within her. For 16 years, she faced challenges that would have broken many, meeting each day with a determination and strength that inspired those around her. Her journey was one of courage, perseverance, and a love for life and the people around her.
Even after all she had endured, Mandie was blessed to spend the final year of her life doing what she loved most. Alongside Joe, she traveled the country in their fifth wheel, exploring new places, embracing new adventures, and making memories together. She spent her days enjoying the freedom of the beauty of the world around her, living life on her own terms and filling her final chapter with the joy and adventure she loved.
Though her fight was long and her road was difficult, Mandie never stopped showing the world just how strong a woman could be. Now, after 16 years of fighting, she can finally lay down her burdens and rest peacefully in the arms of Jesus. Her earthly battle has ended, but the love she gave, the strength she showed, and the mark she left on the hearts of those who knew her will live on forever.
Mandie is survived by her parents, Tony and Debra Boren; her lifelong love, Joseph Walkowiak; her children, Samantha (Austin) and Jakob (Melany); and her stepson, Josh.
She was a proud grandmother to her granddaughters, Emerson and Brooklyn, who were the lights of her life and brought her immeasurable joy.
Mandie is also survived by her sisters, Michelle (Todd) and Melissa (Andrew), as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Aunt Beth (“Shortie”), and Mama Walkowiak.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Mandie’s name to Donate Life Indiana, an organization that meant so much to Mandie and our family. Your generosity would be a meaningful way to honor her memory and support a cause that held such a special place in her heart.
