Margaret Ann
Mahlum
May 31, 1948 – February 12, 2026
Margaret Ann Mahlum, 77, of Jacksonville, NC, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026.
Margaret (Mima) was a woman whose heart knew no limits. She was the most loving, kind, and selfless soul — someone who made everyone around her feel seen, valued, and deeply cared for. Her warmth and compassion touched countless lives.
She was a retired special needs teacher from Southwest High School, where she devoted her career to supporting and uplifting her students. Teaching was not just her profession, but her calling. She had a gift for patience, understanding, and encouragement that left a lasting impact on so many families in the community.
Margaret's greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them — whether reading together, sharing stories, painting, or simply enjoying time side by side. Her love for them was boundless, and they were truly the light of her life.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Mahlum and his wife, Nina Mahlum, and their children Cloey, Jayden, Mason Mahlum, and Leilani Whitehead; her daughter, Elizabeth Donnelly and her husband, Joe Donnelly, and their children Riley, Reagan, Phinnegan, and Dylan; her sister, Molly Peagler; and her brother, Jim Risher and his wife, Cheryl Risher.
Margaret leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the many beautiful memories she gave us. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be announced.
