Marianne "Oma"
Fellbusch
January 3, 1936 – February 27, 2025
Marianne "Oma" Fellbusch passed away on February 27, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was born on January 3, 1936, in Insel Föhr, Germany. In 1953, she immigrated to New York, where she built a life filled with love, hard work, and cherished family traditions.
Marianne worked as a maid in New York City before marrying Fritz "Freddy" Fellbusch known as Opa in 1956. Together, they opened a successful German deli that served the community for 35 years. Their dedication and passion made the deli a beloved gathering place for many.
She is survived by her son, Peter Fellbusch; her daughter, Karen O'Reilly; her sister, Betty Chmielewski (Kurt); and her grandchildren: Bryan and Christine Fellbusch, Kyle and Jen Purdy, Melinda and Kevin Dale, and Kelly O'Reilly. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren: Kevin Jr., Ava, Kristopher, Lillian, and Sabrina. A longtime family friend and father of her grandchildren, Tom O'Reilly, also held a special place in her life.
Marianne found joy in simple pleasures. She loved chocolate, her nightly drinks, dining out with friends and family. She was known for her lively spirit and love of dancing to German music. She enjoyed sitting outside for lunch, waving at neighbors and delivery drivers throughout the day. Her garden gnomes, flowers, and birdwatching brought her happiness, as did watching wrestling on Friday nights. Above all, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marianne touched many lives. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her.
