Obituary

Marilyn Jean Roglinske Bond, 94, passed away peacefully on Feb. 3, 2025, in her daughter's Swansboro home after a brief illness.

Marilyn was born on Nov. 27, 1930, in Fond du Lac, Wisc., to Alma and Ed Roglinske both of whom preceded her in death.

As a child of the Great Depression, she hunted rabbits and squirrels with her father and learned to sew, bake and cook from her mother. She was a Christian who in her youth attended a Lutheran academy and later taught childrens' Sunday school at a Charlotte Methodist church.

Marilyn loved nature and gardening and was a voracious reader throughout her life.

On July 26, 1947, she married Russell K. Bond Sr.—a Fond du Lac native and returning WWII veteran—and together they raised four children—twin daughters Karen and Karol, a son Rusty and daughter Kathleen. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage before Russell's passing.

In 1949, Marilyn and Russell left Wisconsin and moved to North Carolina, where her sister in-law had already relocated. There, they raised their children in and around the Charlotte area.

While in her early 40s, Marilyn completed her high-school education at night school and used her diploma to attain positions at various medical offices including Carolina's Medical Center in the accounts receivable department.

Upon her retirement, the couple moved to the North Carolina coast—first to Calabash and then in 2003 to Swansboro to be closer to family.

Marilyn remained active outside the home by volunteering as a "Pink Lady" at Brunswick Community Hospital and at local thrift shops in the communities in which she lived.

Family pets were cherished by Marilyn including schnauzers Gretal and Pepper, Peaches, a long-haired cat and her grand dogs Monte and Kaycee.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Russell, son Russell "Rusty" Bond Jr. and brother Edward Roglinske. She is survived by her sister Karen Roglinske Schmitz (Randy Stracy) of Colorado, brother John Roglinske (Susan) of Wisconsin, daughters Karen Hinson (Brian), Karol Molpus both of Johnston, S.C., Kathy McHugh (Michael) of Swansboro, N.C.,  grandchildren Andrew Bullard (April) of Virgina Beach, Va., Erin O'Neal (James) of Johnston, S.C., Kerry Deese of Greenville, S.C., great-grandchildren Kenneth, Piper, Lily, Zeke, Liza, and Charlotte…and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

No service is planned. In lieu of flowers and cards donations can be made in Marilyn's name to the Friends of the Swansboro Library, St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.

The family is very gracious for the care, compassion and guidance given by the team at Gentiva Hospice of Swansboro.
