Mark D
Laskowski
February 14, 1952 – March 2, 2022
On March 2, 2022, the Laskowski family lost their hero, Mark D. Laskowski (Ski), age 70, of Jacksonville NC, due to contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.
Ski was born on February 14, 1952, in San Jose, California to Garvin and Martha Laskowski. He grew up with two sisters, Alice and Nancy. At the age of 17 he began a life of service, enlisting into the Marine Corps to join the ranks among the bravest during the Vietnam War. While on Embassy Duty in Buenes Aires, Argentina he met his first wife Veronica. The two married and after traveling the country during Ski's military career, formed roots in Jacksonville, NC. After 22 years of service to the country, both ashore and abroad, Ski retired as a Master Sergeant. Upon retirement he continued his service to others by joining the ranks at the Jacksonville Police Department in 1993. In 1996 Ski suffered the loss of his wife, Veronica. While working with JPD he met Brenda and her son, GJ, and the two married in 1997. The same year they welcomed their daughter Alexis. After 16 years of service to the community Ski retired from JPD in 2010. After his second retirement, Ski could not sit still and swore-in as a police officer at Albert J. Ellis Airport (OAJ) in Richlands, NC. Ski was a familiar face for many while serving an additional 11 years to the community at OAJ.
Ski had a heart for serving others and was known as having a hard exterior but a soft heart. He had a love for reading, war history, a lifetime member of the NRA, and was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police for 23 years. In addition to his service and hobbies, Ski was a devoted husband and a loving father. He always put in the extra effort for his wife and children, doting on their every need and never stopped loving them with all of his heart.
Ski is survived by wife Brenda Laskowski of Jacksonville, NC, daughter Alexis Laskowski, LTJG U.S. Coast Guard, son Gregory Mather, two sisters, Alice and Nancy and foster daughter Lory Delaney. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is preceded in passing by his parents and first wife, Veronica.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 09, 2022, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, located on Gum Branch Rd, in Jacksonville, NC at 1030AM.
