Cape Carteret- Mary Strange Brinkley, 86, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. She was born February 16, 1939, in Durham, NC a daughter of the late Reuben and Alma McFarland Strange.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 2:00pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham.

Mary was the church pianist at Gorman Baptist Church for many years, following in her mother's footsteps. She loved to be at the piano and share her love of music with family and friends, continuing to play, even until the night before she passed away. She never seemed to meet a stranger, always had a kind word and her bright smile was contagious! She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her sons, Wyatt Brinkley of Cape Carteret and Scott Brinkley (Chris) of Maysville; grandsons, Jarett (Kayleigh) and Carson; great granddaughter, Ophelia; and numerous cousins, nieces and their extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.T. Brinkley, Sr.

Flowers are welcomed and can be delivered to Woodlawn Memorial Park Tuesday, February 10, 2026, before 12:00 or memorials may be made to the Gorman Baptist Church, Music Department, 3315 East Greer St., Durham, NC 27704.
