Obituary

Mary Anna Pearson of Morehead City, formerly Winston-Salem, died peacefully at her home on July 2, 2026. She was born June 9, 1946, in Pitt County and was the 5th child of the late Mildred and Harry Ferguson. 

She was the epitome of unconditional love and forgiveness but had a bit of a sassy side to her. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joy Sullivan and four brothers, William “Donald” Ferguson, Tommy Ferguson, Harry “Butch” Ferguson, and Sammy Ferguson. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Johnnie Pearson; a son John Pearson (Ashley) of Chattanooga, TN; a daughter Kathryn Savill (Jarrod) of Morehead City; and three grandsons, Gabriel Savill, Andrew Coffey(Ashley and great-grandson Luca), Matthew Coffey (Alex), a sister Ella Mae Coburn (Frank, deceased), a brother Bobby Ferguson (Charlene), and many nieces and nephews. 

The family expresses it’s heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice as well as her “Angel Squad” for their compassionate and generous care. 

The family will receive friends at Salem Funeral home on July 27, 2026, from 12-2PM with a graveside service to follow at God’s Acre at 2:15PM.

 In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Wachovia Historical Society or Calvary Moravian Church.
