Michelle Burris
Kenerly
November 2, 1936 – June 14, 2025
Hubert– Michelle Burris Kenerly, 88, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 14, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on November 2, 1936, in Cannon, Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Mary Carey Burris.
Michelle worked as a telephone operator early in life, but her most important roles were as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a steady, dependable presence to those who knew her. Though quiet by nature, she showed her love through support and loyalty, and her family always knew she was there when they needed her.
She never wanted for much and was content wherever life placed her. Michelle had a natural ease about her—unbothered, easygoing, and at peace in any setting. She also had a gift for stretching a dollar and found joy in the simple things. One of her favorite places was The Hem of His Garment thrift store, where everyone knew her by name and greeted her with a smile—a true reflection of her humble heart and love for community.
On October 30, 1959, she married Donald Clement Kenerly, Jr., and together they shared more than 65 years of life and commitment.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Clement Kenerly, Jr. of the home; her children, Danielle Kenerly Walker (M. Scott) of Florida, Debi Walker (Scott) of Swansboro, and Eric Kenerly (Anna) of Georgia; grandchildren, David, Derek, Kyle, Ally, Drew, Fletcher, Daisy, Tyler, Austen Rienhardt, Jaiden Morrison, and Steven Tobias; and great-grandchildren, Rylee, Kayce, Jace, and Reyna.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Burris, and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Dakota Kowalczyk.
Michelle's quiet strength, content spirit, and faithful love will be remembered by all who knew her. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace.
