Obituary

Nancy Joy Millis Edens

Sneads Ferry- Nancy Joy Millis Edens, 69, of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina passed away on October 8th, 2026 in her home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026 at New River Community Church of God. Burial will follow at the Millis Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00-4:30, and the funeral will begin at 4:30.

Nancy Joy was born on April 14th, 1957 in Key West, Florida to the late Tim McCoy Millis and Iris Rochelle Millis. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years Donald Warren Edens Jr.

Nancy spent her early years in the Keys, they eventually moved back home to Sneads Ferry and have been here ever since. As a young girl she loved taking trips with her Daddy up and down the coast delivering seafood. Nancy will be remembered for her deep love of the water, her family, and the commercial fishing community. She worked at B.F. Millis & Sons alongside her husband, parents, brother, sons, grandchildren, nieces, and many other family members. The fish house was more than a workplace to Nancy; it represented the family heritage and way of life she proudly helped preserve.

For 23 years, Nancy was a devoted member of the Southern Shrimp Alliance, contributing countless hours to supporting and advocating for commercial fishermen from Texas to North Carolina. She was a loving, caring, and hardworking woman who would do anything for anyone. Her generosity, determination, and dedication touched the lives of fishermen, friends, and families throughout the coast.

Nancy enjoyed beach music, scrapbooking, spending time with her family, and decorating with anything nautical. She held a special place in her heart for Florida and always enjoyed a good Cuban sandwich but above all, she loved her husband, Donnie. They married on June 21, 1975, and spent their lives side by side, whether they were working on the boats, traveling, delivering shrimp, or eating at one of the many restaurants along the way.

Nancy's strong faith in the Lord guided her throughout her life. She attended New River Community Church of God from a young age and demonstrated her faith through the kindness and compassion she showed others. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, love, hard work, and devotion to Donnie, her family, and the community she treasured. To know Nancy was to love her.

She is survived by her children Jeremy Edens & Steven Edens (Barbara). Grandchildren, Miranda Belfiore(Jonathon), Lee Edens(Ivey), Ike Edens(Colby), Gracie Edens & Annie Edens; Great-Grandchildren, Jolly, Easton, Memphis, Kenly, Aaliyah, LJ, & soon to be born Davis; Brother Timmie Millis (Donna) Niece; Brittney Powell (Mitchell) Great niece; Julianna Powell and many other Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, family and friends.
