Nolan Rundell
Whaley
Oct 14, 1933 — Jul 6, 2026
Richlands
Richlands NC- With deep love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Nolan Rundell Whaley, who peacefully departed this life on July 6, 2026 at the age of 92.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Community Christian Church on Richlands Loop Rd. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
Born on October 14, 1933 in Richlands, North Carolina, Nolan grew up on his family farm and lived a life defined by kindness, humility, and an unwavering work ethic. He believed that every job was worth doing well and approached each day with determination, and a grateful heart. His gentle spirit and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Nolan treasured the time he spent with his family. He found great joy in providing for those he loved and demonstrated his love through faithful service, quiet sacrifice, and generous heart. His family will always remember his wisdom, warm smile, and the example he set through a life of honesty and compassion.
Throughout his life, Nolan earned the respect of his coworkers, neighbors, and friends through his dedication and dependability. He was never one to seek recognition, believing instead that true character was shown through hard work, humility, and treating others with kindness and respect.
Nolan spent two years in the United States Army, carrying with him the values of service and integrity throughout his life. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a telephone technician for 35 years, where he became known for his reliability, skill, and commitment to doing every job with detail. He achieved an electronics degree from Devry University and had owned his own business as a television repair man in Richlands and Wilmington.
Beyond his profession, Nolan was a gifted handyman. There seemed to be very little he couldn't repair or build. Whether helping a neighbor, fixing something for a family member, or tackling a project around the house, he was always willing to lend his hands and share his knowledge, even if it was in extensive detail.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Roberta Whaley, his parents, Edward and Nimmie Whaley, and beloved brother, Edward Kendall Whaley.
Nolan is survived by his daughters – Robin Whaley; Regina Scribner (Chris) and Rebecca Jones (Al). Nolan had 4 grandchildren – Jeremy Pittman, Lane Scribner (Alea), Sydney Scribner (fiancé Brayden Nowlin) and Isaac Land. Known as grandpa, he had one great-granddaughter, Harper Rose. Nolan has two surviving sisters, Carmen Hogan and Willena Cowan, both of Richlands. He also has many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
His hands may now be at rest, but the lives he built, the hearts he touched, and the example he set will endure forever.
“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us.” – Psalms 90:17
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests for donations be made to the church.
