Obituary

Hirsch, Patricia Gail

March 29,1945 - July 7, 2026

Patricia Gail Hirsch passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, at the age of 81 in Jacksonville, NC. Prior to this extended illness, she still did all her own yardwork and woodworking. The youngest child of John J. Hirsch and Ruth E Day, she was born March 29, 1945, in Rhinebeck, NY. In addition to upstate NY and NC, she resided happily in Arcadia, Florida for many years.

Always an outdoor girl, she loved hunting, fishing and woodworking but especially her horses and other pets. She raised American Quarter Horses most of her life and was an accomplished barrel racer in her youth. Her adventurous spirit and mischievous sense of humor created legendary exploits still retold amongst family and friends. She loved creating extensive holiday displays in her yard, following the PBR rodeos, feeding her birds and squirrels, and bingo.

Her greatest love was doing all she could to care for family and friends throughout her life. She worked many different jobs but was proudest of the Milan Country Store, the deli, market, gathering place for locals and favorite stop for New Yorkers visiting upstate.

She is survived by sister Jean R. Hirsch and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Judy A. Holt, brother John J. Hirsch III (Jack) and nephew Timothy J. Holt.

Celebrations of a life well lived will be held later locally and in New York’s Hudson Valley where she grew up. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to give a donation in her name to any of the horse rescue organizations in our area or yours.
