Emerald Isle- Paul Joseph Schwartz, 86, passed away Friday, July 17, 2026, at his home. He was born on September 27, 1939, in Richmond, VA, a son to the late Paul A. and Celeste Schwartz.
Paul was a loving husband, father, brother, and son. He was a lover of life, people and animals. He grew up in Richmond Virginia. He shared his life with his loyal wife of 70 years, Maureen. He was a hard worker and capped a successful career in sales management with Performance Food Group. Maureen and Paul retired to Emerald Isle in 2007. Paul spent sunrise on the beach every morning with his friends and dog and, on occasion, his grandsons, Reid and Jackson. He had boundless energy and volunteered wherever needed to make Emerald Isle a better place, including efforts to build the bike path on Coast Guard Road. He was friendly and outgoing and never met a stranger. He was a foodie who became quite a chef in his later years. He loved hosting and cooking for his family and frreinds, especially his poker buddies.
His playful disposition and zest for life will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Maureen T. Schwartz of the home; children, Wendy Gay Schwatz of Wanchese, NC, Brad Evans Schwartz (Angie) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Jennifer Carole Schwartz (Eric Kramer) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Riley, Reid, and Jackson; three great-grandchildren, June, Walter, and Winnie; sisters, Joan Weber and Nancy Lytton of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Carole Stevens of Richmond, VA; and beloved nieces and nephews including Linda, who was very special to him.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society, 853 Hibbs Rd, Newport, NC 28570.
