Obituary


CAPE CARTERET - Peggy Parish Brown Hazebrouck Hood. Born April 12, 1931, she went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2015 at the age of 83. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 28th at Jones Funeral Home, Swansboro Chapel, with Rev. Freddie Braswell officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM later that day at her final resting place, Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon, NC with Rev. Jack Glasgow officiating.
Peggy was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Parish of Raleigh, NC and later graduated from Millbrook High School in 1950. She married Mr. Jimmy Brown of Franklinton, NC and had two children, Cynthia and Greg, while working as a Nurse's aide at Dorthea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, NC for 10 years and afterwards as manager of the S & H Green Stamp Store in Raleigh for 8 years. She later divorced and married Mr. Frank Hazebrouck of Oxford, NC with who she shared a daughter, Erica. The family lived in Wendell, NC where Peggy worked at East Wake High School as a Teacher Assistant for 10 years. In 1986, Mr. Hazebrouck passed away from cancer after 17 years of marriage. Peggy was an active of member of Zebulon Baptist Church in Zebulon, NC. Seven years later, Peggy married Mr. Raymond Hood of Cary, NC where they resided together. Peggy and Ray were very active in the Veterans of Foreign War Post # 7383, Peggy specifically in the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign War where she was Post and District President of the Auxiliary. Peggy was also the last surviving Charter Member of the Garner Post #10225. A long-standing dream was to retire to the beach, so Peggy and husband Ray retired to Cape Carteret, NC, where she loved to fish and entertain family and friends. She and Ray were very active in the VFW Post #9960 in Swansboro, NC, where Peggy was the Chaplain of the Ladies Auxiliary from 2010 - 2013. Peggy adored her extended family and friends at Post #9960. Peggy moved her Church membership to Emerald Isle Baptist Church at her new home.
Peggy was preceded in death by husbands, Jimmy Brown and Frank Hazebrouck; son Greg Brown; stepdaughter, Deborah Hazebrouck and sister, Audrey Miller.
She is and will always be lovingly remembered by her husband of 22 years, Ray; her daughters, Cynthia(Cindy)Atkinson and her husband, Irwyn of Wendell, NC, Erica Flory and her husband, Ron also of Wendell, NC; her grandchildren, Tate Edwards and his wife, Heather of Wilmington, NC, Boyd Atkinson and Alex, Rhianna, and Gavin Flory, all of Wendell, NC; stepchildren, Scott Hood and his wife, Lori and two sons, Gregory and Cameron of Holly Springs, NC, Steven Hood and his wife, Jillian of Youngsville, NC and Carrie Wade and her sons, Bryan and Jonathan of Kinston, NC; brother, Otis Matheny of Raleigh, NC; best friend since grade school, Margaret Joyner of Zebulon, NC and Tim White of Indiana who is like a son to her.
The family would like to thank the Cardiac CCU Doctors and Nurses at Carteret General Hospital for their kind and gentle care of Peggy.
Peggy lived a full life, loved the Lord, her family, friends and her cats, Muffin and Sam. Having never met a stranger, Peggy loved people and nothing made her happier than to be with her children and grandchildren whom she loved and was very proud of. She enjoyed cooking, as well as feeding her birds and had a green thumb with a beautiful yard of flowers to show for it. Peggy is now departed, but the special love she brought to all our lives will live forever in our hearts. She wrote in her living will to, "Please try to live your life with God as your partner because you can't find happiness without Him".
The family will receive friends Saturday morning, prior to the service, from 9AM - 10AM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.

Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM later that day at her final resting place, Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon, NC with Rev. Jack Glasgow officiating.
