JACKSOVNILLE  -  Bonnie Mae Leary "Pete",98, of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully January 14, 2026. Her celebration of life will be held at 12:00 PM on January 21, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel with Melvin Bland officiating. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Mrs. Leary was a CNA and worked at Onslow Pines Rest Home and Premier Nursing Home in Jacksonville for years.

She loved to mow grass and going to get her hair done with her special friend Maryanne. Everybody knew she had to have her extra brown cheddar bo biscuit from Bojangles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hamp and Belle Miller; son, Jimmy Mills; daughters, Dorothy Marshburn and Tammy Hemby; her brothers, Bruce, Herman, Leo, Woodrow, Clifton, Douglas, Dick and Buck Miller; and sisters, Hazel Stallings and Estelle Tyndall Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Emercyn and Keaton.

She is survived by her son, Roger (Sylvia) Mills of Newport; daughter, Shirley Thompson of Wilson; sister, Louise Futrell of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; lifelong friends, Cat, Darlene, Travis, Tammy, Charles, Bonnie and Carol; and many more special friends, nieces, and nephews.

Our loving mama and grandma was a loyal servant to Jesus and witnessed to everyone she came encounter with and shared all the great things he has done. She believed in the power of prayers.
