Phyllis Louise Humphrey, 78, of Jacksonville, passed away on May 22, 2026.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home Jacksonville Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.
Phyllis was born on November 23, 1947, to the late Louise Parker and Guy Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Donald MacArthur Humphrey; her brother, Elwood Parker; and her sister, Linda Gail Parker.
Born and raised in Verona, Phyllis later made her home in Jacksonville. She was strong-willed, hardworking, adventurous, and unforgettable. She had a big personality, a direct way of speaking, and a heart that held her family together.
Throughout her life, Phyllis worked hard and built many things of her own. She was a hairdresser, owned a bar, and helped operate Humphrey Trucking alongside her husband. She believed in determination, independence, and doing things her own way.
After retirement, her favorite title became “Nana.” She loved her grandchildren, bonus grandchildren, nieces, and nephews deeply and was always there to support them. She was proud of her family and made sure they always knew it.
Phyllis enjoyed the beach, fishing, fish fries, classic cars, NASCAR, traveling, and any adventure that promised a good time. She loved being on the water and was known for being a fearless boat captain. She also loved cooking and made sure no one ever left her home hungry.
Phyllis was full of sass, humor, honesty, and love. She could command a room, tell it like it was, and make memories that would last a lifetime. Her home was a gathering place, her advice was always honest, and her love for her family never wavered.
She is survived by her daughters, Crystal Humphrey and DawnRee Humphrey Saunders and husband, Justin; her grandchildren, Summer Banks and Kainen Kelly; her bonus grandchildren, Amira Saunders and Jamison Saunders; her sister, Chellie Parker and husband, Hubert; her brother, Durwood Parker and wife, Vivian; her devoted caretaker, Bonnie Christ; a host of nieces and nephews; as well as extended family and many friends who will miss her dearly.
Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, laughter, and unforgettable stories. Her spirit will live on through the family she loved so deeply and the memories they will carry forever
