August 2, 1931 – June 3, 2025
Cape Carteret- Reed Lamont Silvis, 93, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 3,2025 with his wife by his side. He was born August 2,1931 in Mud Lick, PA the only child of John Reed and Viola Gertrude Irwin Silvis.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, June 7,2025 at First Baptist Church Swansboro with Rev. Luke Brakefield officiating. Burial will be at the Erie County Memorial Gardens in Erie PA at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Reed faithfully served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He served two years of his tour in Okinawa. Upon leaving service, he began a career as a technical writer for Erie Insurance Company. He loved to spend time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Bennett Silvis of the home; children, Rita Reilly (Ray), Craig Alan Silvis (Peggy), and J. Kevin Silvis (Bonita) all of Erie, PA, Babs Lauren Bengtson of Williamsburg, VA and Brian Scott Silvis (Chris) of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Kelsey Wildstone, Nathan Wildstone, Patrick Silvis, Michael Silvis, Zackary Silvis, Cameron Silvis, Jacob Silvis, Josiah Silvis, Mark Bengston, Andrew Silvis, Aaron Silvis, Tyler Silvis, and Eli Silvis. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Emma, Carter, Tegan, Rilee, Rowan, Maggie, and Theodore.
Reed was a man of deep faith. He became a Christian in 1956 and served his Lord, church and family faithfully. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Erie, PA and then the First Baptist Church in Swansboro, NC after moving to the area in 2010. He was appointed deacon in 2016.
He led a very gentle, quiet life as a soft-spoken person who never lost his temper. He had a kind and encouraging word for everyone. Many leaned on his quiet support, knowing he was a man of incredible inner strength and one who could be trusted. He was much loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 614 W Corbett Ave., Swansboro, NC 28584.
