Renée Maxine Cogdell Foley, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025. Born on October 24, 1943, in Kinston, North Carolina, Renée was the daughter of the late James and Theon Cogdell. She lived a life rooted in faith and dedicated to her family and her giving spirit.
A devoted homemaker for most of her life, Renée found joy and purpose in creating a warm and loving home for her family. Her passions were simple and heartfelt—she loved to cook, and spent countless hours assembling large and intricate puzzles. She was also adept at hand crafts, especially macrame. She made and distributed many gifts to family and friends. These gifts are still treasured.
She was a woman of deep faith and believed wholeheartedly in the power of giving. Her generosity extended not only to her local church, which she supported in a multitude of ways, but also to numerous charities, a testament to her kind and selfless nature. Renée also enjoyed traveling internationally with her husband, creating cherished memories together.
Renée is preceded in death by her parents, James and Theon Cogdell; her stepmother, Marylin Cogdell; and her sister, Paula Melvin.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, MGySgt Henry Foley, USMC, Ret. of Jacksonville, North Carolina; her sons, Terris Foley of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Todd Foley, TSgt USAF, Ret. of New Braunfels, Texas; her grandchildren, Tanisha Hargrove (Tampa, Florida), Todd Foley II (San Antonio, Texas), and Shanice Foley (San Antonio, Texas); and her great-grandchildren, Lathan Ball (Tampa, Florida), Layla Foley (San Antonio, Texas), Nora Foley (San Antonio, Texas) and Danica Free (San Antonio, Texas). She also leaves behind her sisters, Derita Knox of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jimmette Graham of Kinston, North Carolina.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
