Richard Douglas
Price
February 16, 1948 – February 15, 2025
Richard Douglas "Dick" Price, beloved husband, father, mentor, and friend, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the age of 76 in his home. He was a man of deep faith, unwavering commitment, and boundless love, leaving behind a legacy that touched countless lives.
Born on February 16, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dick was the son of Leroy and Margaret Price. His upbringing instilled in him a sense of duty, integrity, and compassion that would shape his life's work.
Dick was a devoted husband to his wife, Sue Price, and a proud father to Derek and Kelly. He embraced his role as a dad to Chris, Mike, and Jeff and was a cherished grandfather to eight biological grandchildren and multiple adoptive grandchildren. His passion for life was evident in his love for music, riding motorcycles, hunting, and spending time in fellowship with those he mentored. A talented singer, he performed three times with the Indianapolis Opera and was an active member of the New River Harmony Barbershop for many years.
Dick proudly served as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service extended beyond the military, shaping his lifelong mission of guiding and mentoring others. Following his service, he became highly knowledgeable in insurance and worked for his father's company early in his career. Combining these experiences, he became a Veteran Service Officer in Indianapolis, where he assisted veterans and their families in obtaining the benefits they had earned. In this capacity, he witnessed firsthand the struggles many veterans faced in processing their military experiences, particularly those who had served in combat. This deepened his commitment to supporting service members, and over time, his role evolved into counseling those dealing with post-traumatic stress disorders.
In 2000, Dick moved to Jacksonville, North Carolina to serve with The Navigators at Camp Lejeune, where he led Bible studies and discipled young Marines. His mentorship left an indelible mark on many, offering wisdom, guidance, and a steadfast example of faith in action. After three years, he transitioned to the Christian Military Fellowship, where he continued his ministry, tirelessly supporting military families and strengthening their faith.
Dick's commitment to others was evident in the time he dedicated to ministry and discipleship. He not only led Bible studies but also walked alongside those he mentored, providing spiritual guidance and unwavering support. For many, he was more than a mentor—he was a father figure, a friend, and a source of encouragement through every stage of life.
Dick was a man of integrity and wisdom. He had a way of making people feel valued, always reminding them of their worth in Christ. He not only taught Scripture but lived it, demonstrating love, passion, and faithfulness in all he did. His impact was not limited to his words, his actions spoke just as loudly, inspiring those around him to walk a path of faith, love, and service.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Sue Price; his children and grandchildren; and a host of extended family members, friends, and those whom he mentored. His legacy of faith, love, and service will continue through the many lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, followed by a meal at Kellum Baptist Church's Fellowship Hall at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Christian Military Fellowship at https://www.cmfhq.org/ways-to-give .
The family expresses their deepest gratitude for the love and support they have received during this time. Dick's impact will live on in the countless lives he shaped, the wisdom he imparted, and the love he freely gave. He was a faithful servant, a devoted husband, and a guiding light to many. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy remains, reminding all to live with purpose, love generously, and walk in faith.
