Wednesday
Onslow Memorial Park Cemetery
Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
Robert “Bob” Charles Gardner, 82, passed away peacefully on 8/27/26 at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare after a brief battle with Lung Cancer associated with Lambert Eaton’s Myasthenic Syndrome.
Born on June 17th, 1944, Bob lived a life marked by service, family, kindness (with strong opinions) and a love for food.
He, proudly, served his country for six years in the United States Marine Corp. His service was an important part of who he was. Even in his final days at Duke Regional, he was impressing the nurses with his “Marine pull-ups” while in bed.
Bob was married twice in his lifetime and was preceded in death by both wives. Lucy lost her battle with cancer early in their marriage. He went on to spend many years with his beloved Julia until her passing in 2023.
Bob is survived by his stepchildren Donna Worrell Heath and Kirby Worrell (Jamie), his granddaughters Madison Heath & Shelby Springfield, grandsons Evan and Colin Gillespie and 3 great-grandchildren as well as many other extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Bob will be remembered for his love of saving a buck, his many breakfasts with buddies and his determination to live life on his own terms even lobbying for a hot dog or steak dinner despite medical recommendations.
Graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd at 11am at Onslow Memorial Park Cemetery located at 3280 Richlands Hwy.
