Jacksonville – Robert E. Smith, 89, passed away at his home on Monday, August 18, 2025.

A funeral to celebrate Robert's life will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Bethlehem Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Jones Funeral Home in Richlands. A graveside committal service will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 25, 2025.

Robert was a loving husband and father that devoted his life to farming in order to provide for his family.

Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Carolyn Hill Smith; parents, Ralph and Estelle Smith; siblings, Evelyn, Joyce, and Elwood.

He is survived by his children, Janice Smith of Farmville and Steve Smith of Jacksonville; siblings Carolyn, Edna, Ruth, and Hazel; and his furry companion Boo Boo.
