Obituary

Robert Garvey "Bob" Everhart, Jr., 80, of Swansboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.

Bob was born on September 23, 1944, in Panama City, Florida, while his father was serving at Tyndall Air Force Base during World War II.  Bob was the son of the late Robert Garvey Everhart, Sr. and Gertrude Link Everhart. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, he will be remembered for his loyalty, work ethic and deep love for his family and friends.

Bob graduated from North Davidson High School in 1962, where he enjoyed playing football and excelled at track. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from East Carolina University (ECU) in 1966 and pursued postgraduate Textile Engineering studies at Clemson University. Following his graduation, he worked 33 dedicated years at Frank Ix & Sons Textiles in Lexington. He held a variety of positions with the company and retired as the Vice President of Manufacturing. Following his distinguished career in the textile industry he pursued his dream of working in real estate, where he was a broker for 10 years at Century 21 Lohr Realty.

Outside of work, he most cherished spending time with his family and friends on High Rock Lake and the White Oak River. As a devoted ECU pirates sports fan, his two favorite colors were purple and gold, and were always a part of his daily attire.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Patricia "Trish" Everhart of the home; daughter, Jennifer Everhart Hill (Jon) of Banks, Oregon; son, John of Chesterfield, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Abby Everhart;  Nolan, Lauren, and Joe Hill; Collin, Ethan and Emma Kate Everhart; two great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Verba-Hill and Walker Everhart; his brother, Jerry Lee Everhart of Tularosa, New Mexico; and his sister-in-law Judy Wasileski of Palm Coast, Florida.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Robert G. Everhart, III, father-in-law Lewis Renn, mother-in-law Helen Perry Renn and brother-in-law Nick Wasileski.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ECU Educational Foundation or the charity of one's choice.
