Obituary

Hubert- Robert (Bob) Paine Shannon, 75, passed away Friday, September 22, 2023 at Carteret Health Care with his family by his side. He was born September 3, 1948 in Baltimore, MD, a son of the late Edgar F. and Shirley Canoles Shannon.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home-Swansboro. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Bob graduated from East Longmeadow High School in East Longmeadow, MA in 1966 and attended the College of the Holy Cross. He served in the USMC Reserves for 17 years and was honorably discharged. He spent his civilian career in software engineering and retired from Rocket Software Corporation in 2016. Bob was a top-level mainframe developer, systems programmer and manager. His deep knowledge in subject matters and breadth of interest gained him national recognition in the community, and for many years, he was one of the most respected leaders and speakers at SHARE conferences. After he retired, he held several offices in the Marine Corps League, Swansboro Detachment 1407, most recently including pay master and adjutant. He received the Marine Corps League Detachment's Marine of the Year award in 2019 and their Outstanding Veteran of the Year award for Jacksonville, NC in 2021. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 1428 in Swansboro, NC. Bob was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be remembered for his intellect, sense of humor and love of country.

Bob leaves behind his beloved wife of 50 years, Vicky (Boucher) Shannon. He is also survived by his daughters, Kathleen Torman (Charles) and Kelly Prifti (Edi) both of Hubert; grandchildren, Fiona, Genti, Benjamin, and Melinda; and two brothers, David Shannon (Janice) of Wolfeboro, NH and Donald Shannon (Carrie) of Gloucester, MA.
