Obituary

Robert “Shiney” Leo Walsh, 61, of Jacksonville, North Carolina passed away on October 16, 2026, at University of Pittsburg Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Shiney was born on February 25, 1965, in Luzerne, PA to the late Jerome Walsh and Lucille Wolman Walsh. Shiney grew up in Wilkes-Barre, PA where he graduated in 1983 from Bishop Hoban High School. He then joined the Marine Corps and served 24 years working in Legal Review, and retired as a Master Seargeant. He was well respected in the legal community. After his retirement from the Marine Corps Shiney continued for 15 years as the Review Chief.

Growing up Shiney played football as a starting middle linebacker. While in the Marines he enjoyed playing intramural softball and on lunch breaks he would also play basketball with his junior Marines. In his later years he enjoyed playing pool, poker and golf. However his absolute favorite thing to do was to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers play football.

Shiney was known for his no nonsense attitude and told you like it was. He had a tough exterior but had a heart of gold. If you were in his circle of friends you knew he had your back. He was a dedicated husband and father and made sure his wife and children were always taken care of.

He is survived by his wife, Monique Walsh; children, Robert James “RJ” Walsh and Michelle Lynn Walsh; siblings, Margaret Ann Walsh, Jerome “Butch” Walsh (Marlene), and Michael Walsh; mother and father-in-law, Danny and Sharon Brower; brother and sister-in-law, Brianne and Kevin Kuebler; nieces and nephews, Jacob, Lauren, Jerry, Mackenzie, Kaylee, and Allie; great-nieces, Annabelle and Wrenlee; his beloved dog, Buddy; and several great friends.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shiney’s name to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Wounded Warriors.
