Swansboro- Robert "Bob" Spruce Nichols, Sr., 84, originally of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer on February 25, 2017 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington. He was born February 29, 1932 in Durham County son of the late, Robert Lee and Ora Parrish Nichols.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Swansboro United Methodist Church with a reception to follow at the Swansboro Rotary Club 1104 Main Street Ext Swansboro.
He attended Durham High School then entered the US Navy afterwards he attended UNC Chapel Hill where he met his beloved wife with whom he recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
He worked with Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co. until 1959.
He is survived by his loving wife, Harriette Watson Nichols of the home; sons, Robert Spruce Nichols, Jr. (Jackie), Zachry Lee Nichols (Charlene), and Jaime Parrish Nichols (Mary Keeter); daughter, Harriette Proctor (Marty); grandchildren, Bobby, Zack, Watson, Shea, Lou, Robby, Carly, Jimmy, and Jordan; five greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by many loving Nichols and Parrish relatives.
In 1959 Bob entered the jewelry business in Roanoke Rapids and has been continually working until 2015. In 1987 he opened a smaller store in Swansboro where he enjoyed his customers, being well known for his honesty and integrity.
