July 9, 1952 – April 24, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rodney Speed, a devoted husband, cherished father, and beloved grandfather, who departed this life on April 24, 2025 at the age of 72.
Born on July 9, 1952 in Poughkeepsie, NY. Rodney lived a life rich in love, laughter, and adventure. He shared 53 incredible years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jacqueline Speed, creating a home filled with warmth, strength, and unwavering devotion. Together, they raised 7 children, each of whom carry his wisdom, gentle spirit, and endless love in their hearts.
Rodney, was a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures. A love of fishing and always ready with a story and a smile. His love for travel took him to breathtaking places far and near, but it was the people he was with and the memories made along the way that meant the most to him.
More than anything, Rodney loved his family. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life, and he was happiest when surrounded by their laughter and energy. His presence—steady, kind, and full of quiet strength—was a gift to all who knew him. Rodney retired as a supervisor in the finishing department of Vertis printing industry.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Speed of NC. Foster parents Rev. John and JoAnne Koppenaal of TX. A sister Carol Baker of NY. His children, Rodney Speed Jr of FL, Sonia Speed of NC, Amy (Bret) Rell of FL, Clarice Schallenkamp of FL, Renee (Michael) Stead of FL, Wendy (Joshua) Choinsky of NY and Joshua Speed of NC. He had 15 grandkids, Rebakah Tucker, Austin Speed, Zachary Speed, Dakota Speed, Brandon Speed, Sierra (Speed) Green, Kristin (Rell) Michelini, Bret Rell Jr, Paige Schallenkamp, Gina Schallenkamp, Parker Stead, Emily Stead, Hannah Stead, Aiden Choinsky, and Zoey Choinsky. Rodney had 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Wilmer Speed and Elizabeth Madaras-Speed and his brother; Wilmer Speed.
Rodney's legacy is one of love, generosity, and a life lived fully and well. He will be missed deeply but remembered always. A private celebration of Rodney's life will be held later with Family.
